About us

The Department of Criminology at the University of Stockholm was Sweden’s first Criminology department. The first chair in general criminology was established at Stockholm University in 1964 at the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences. The undergraduate programme in Criminology was first introduced in 1970 at the same time as Criminology became an independent unit within the Department of Sociology. Since 1987, the Faculty of Social Sciences has included a separate department of Criminology.

Today the staff consists of around 30 people, about half of whom are PhD candidates. The department has slightly over 700 students registered on its undergraduate programme. Read more about the departments history here.

In  the menu to the left you find the staff's personal web sites as well as information on how to find your way to the department.
